If you have your own online business or just started your own blog, you know how hard it can be to drive traffic to your website. A good way to get your brand out there and get people to notice you is through social media platforms. It’s the best free advertising.
One good platform to use is Pinterest. This will be one of your best bets when it comes to driving traffic to your website. Today, I am going to show you how you can increase the amount of followers you have on Pinterest, even if you just started out and have no idea what Pinterest even is.

What Pinterest Is – A Small Definition and Some Cool Pro’s
Pinterest is a social media platform like all the others, where you share ideas and concepts with others around the world. There are, however, two very important things that make Pinterest stand out.
Firstly, Pinterest is a very visual form of social media. People don’t share phrases and quotes without any visual aids. People share images or videos that are connected to some kind of website, blog or online store. The great thing about this is that most potential customers like seeing images compared to just reading blocks of text. (I mean, be honest, even this article is a bit much). This means that people are more likely to respond to your Pinterest posts than any other social media platform.
The second amazing thing about Pinterest, is that it doubles as a search engine. Yes, that means that you can get ranked in Pinterest and people can easily find your posts by typing in keywords. I’ll be honest when I say, I am not too sure how you can find out where your rank is, or if that is even possible, but I know you do get ranked.
Both these things make Pinterest the ideal place for you to start scouting for potential customers.
What If You Use Pinterest But You Aren’t Finding Success
Now, this is a very common problem. People just jump in and start pinning random pins and hope for the best. They often become disappointed when they don’t start seeing results right away. The problem is, you need to know what to post, how to post it and also when. All these factors make a very big difference.
There are two ways to go about getting all the statistics right.
- You can either do in depth research and some of your own experimenting to see the optimal time to post, learn what your followers like and don’t like and post every pin manually in bulk at the same time.
- You could join a program that does all of that for you and saves you a whole lot of time.
When I say it saves a lot of time, I mean, it saves you time because you don’t have to spend months doing trial and error research to find out what is needed and it also saves time every day, because you can do weeks of pin scheduling in a few hours and leave your Pinterest account on auto pilot.
Are you curious yet? Well, you are still with me, so that’s a good sign.
Introducing Pin Scheduling with Tailwind
Before I tell you about how cool this is, I probably need to introduce you to Tailwind.
Tailwind is a program that works with Pinterest and Instagram. It is mostly used by businesses that use these two platforms for advertising, though anyone can sign up. It tells you all the statistics you need to know to make the most out of your social media accounts so that you don’t need to learn it by yourself. Tailwind offers detailed analytics too. It also offers a bunch of features that I’ll tell you about soon.
Now that the introduction is out of the way, let me tell you a secret that will make your life a lot easier.
Tailwind’s main function is the ability to schedule pins and posts. The program has already determined what time of day people are most active on Pinterest and therefor when they are more likely to see your pins. So, you can send your pins to a queue where they are posted one at a time to the perfect time slot.
The pin scheduling function increases your chances of people seeing your pins and interacting with them and it also decreases your chances of being flagged for spam because you don’t post 20 pins at a time.
This function is incredibly useful for you because it gives you the values to succeed, but it also saves you a lot of time. You can start on a Monday morning, take an hour and schedule pins for the whole week. Then, for the rest of the week, you don’t have to touch your Pinterest account or your Tailwind account, and it will automatically do the work for you. That’s what I do.
Increase Your Reach With Tailwind Tribes
Tailwind Tribes is another function that I love to use. If used correctly, you can increase the reach of your pins tenfold. It’s also very simple to use.
All you need to do, is find a tribe that you share a topic with. For example, if your blog is about healthy eating habits, find a tribe that also pins about healthy eating habits and join it. Some tribes, you can join right away, but mostly, you need to send a join request to the founder of the tribe and they need to manually accept you before you can join.
The point of a tribe is for people to submit their pins so that other people can repin them. In this way, we can all help each other to increase our reach to a relevant audience without much trouble.
As soon as you’ve joined a tribe, you can start submitting your own pins to the tribe and let people repin them. You should just be careful in reading the rules of a tribe, because most tribes dictate that you need to repin at least as many pins as you submit to make sure that everyone has a fair chance. Read the rules before joining and make sure to always follow them or you can get kicked out of the tribe.
You can even start your own tribe if you don’t find one that you like, or you want some healthy competition. I did the same. You can find or join my tribe about WordPress Themes here if you want to see what it looks like and maybe even contribute.
What You Can Do With The New Smart Loop Function
Do you ever repin some of your own pins again? It could be a really good tactic, because you can capitalize on the success of previous pins, but you gotta know how to do it. If you repin too soon or too often, you might get flagged for spamming (there are too many things that can get you flagged). If you repin old pins that weren’t successful, they won’t be successful this time either. So how do you know when and what to repin?
Simple! You don’t. You let Tailwind handle it all for you. There is a function called loop that you can use to schedule a pin to be repinned after a certain amount of time has passed. That time period has been calculated to the optimal rest period your pin needs, so you don’t need to worry about if it’s too soon.
Stay Ahead With Detailed Analytics
You won’t really know if you’re doing well in a campaign if you can’t see any statistics. Tailwind gives you the tools to monitor your success with some very detailed analytics. Here is a look at a few things you can expect:
- You can see exactly which pins perform well, and which don’t.
- You can see when are your optimal posting times on Pinterest.
- Reports on your profile and boards.
- You can even see how many followers you got from the pins you posted that week.
The higher your account is, the more types of analytics you’ll be able to use to measure your online success. This can be a very useful tool because it’s important to know your audience.
Pick An Affordable Plan That Fits Your Business
Whether you are a massive company, a small entrepreneur or just someone that wants to grow a following on social media, there’s something for every person (and every budget).
Firstly, we have our free trial. This is for people with limited resources to their disposal, or people who want to test drive Tailwind before buying a full membership. You don’t have to pay anything, but you get very limited functionality. This is what you’ll get with your free trial:
- 100 Pins to schedule
- The chance to join 5 tribes
- 30 Pins to your tribes every month
- The ability to use smart loop
- A few of the above mentioned analytics
Tailwind Plus is for small businesses or individuals who want to use Tailwind to grow their business or fan base on Twitter. You get more functionality out of this plan than you would from the free trail, but it is still affordable and easy to manage. Take a look at some of the extra features that you can expect to find from Tailwind Plus:
- Schedule up to 400 pins per month (unlimited when you take the yearly plan).

This is only for seriously big companies who can afford to fork out insane amounts of money a month, so don’t even worry about this one. Unless you have $1200 every month to spend of gaining traffic. I’m just sayin’ it’s a bit much. But you do get a lot for it:
